Thai PBS World engages IIS-RU students in modern journalism insights

Thai PBS World, led by content creator and reporter, Kitipat Chuensukjit, held an engaging roadshow at the Institute of International Studies, Ramkhamhaeng University (IIS-RU) on Friday, October 25, 2024. The event brought together 40 students from English BA and BBA to deepen the understanding of public media, mobile journalism and effective news writing.

Kitipat shared valuable insights about the differences between Modern Journalism and Traditional Journalism, highlighting how journalists differ from content creators like YouTubers. While both may use similar tools, he emphasized that mobile journalists prioritize media literacy, ethics, accuracy, and news value. He encouraged the students, many of whom already have strong video production skills, to build on that by incorporating essential media knowledge.

Joining Kitipat were two Thai PBS World fellowship journalists: Klaing Kimhuoy from Cambodia and Leana Beatrice Bernardo from the Philippines. ฺBoth shared their experiences in the media industry and offered students a regional perspective on the evolving role of journalism in the ASEAN media landscape.

The session resonated strongly with students. Nina, a BBA student from Thailand, said,

I learned so much about journalism. I didn’t know much before, but this was really fun, and the lecturer was engaging.

Charles, a BBA student from Nigeria, appreciated the balanced approach Thai PBS takes in news coverage, adding,

I learned how to write articles and loved the mobile journalism aspect. It’s a modern way of learning journalism.

Hannah, an Arts in English student from the Philippines, mentioned that the event helped her see how mass media impacts areas like government and international affairs.
