Berkeley International School Students Visit Thai PBS for Behind-the-Scenes Media Experience

Thai PBS recently welcomed a group of 14 students and teachers from Berkeley International School for an educational visit exploring the world of public broadcasting — from the newsroom floor to the technology that keeps us on air. The visit was led by Ms. Jnani Pongpakatien, Global Partnership Relations Officer, who served as the primary guide and provided commentary throughout the tour.

With the courtesy of Mr. Damrongket Ritruangdech, Acting Director of the Television and Radio Department, who guided the group through an up-close look at our broadcast operations and production facilities.

A highlight of the visit was an exploration of our Outside Broadcast (OB) van — a fully equipped mobile production unit carrying cameras, video and audio control systems, and communications equipment that enables Thai PBS to produce and broadcast live content from virtually any location.

The group also had the opportunity to examine our DSMG (Digital Satellite News Gathering) vehicle, which uses satellite technology to transmit live audio and video signals from the field back to our station, allowing for fast and efficient reporting from events and locations across the country.

Beyond the vehicles, visitors were taken through our news studio, control room, and master control room, gaining first-hand insight into the step-by-step process of how a public broadcaster produces and airs content every day.

The visit also featured presentations from two members of our Thai PBS World team; Ms. Jnani Pongpakatien, Global Partnership Relations Officer who is the primary guide for the tour, and also joined by Ms. Dolyana Bunnag, the Assistant Editor and news anchor at Thai PBS World, who shared her experiences in a special talk on 'English-Language News Broadcasting in Thailand' — offering the students a candid look at the craft and context of producing English-language journalism in a Thai setting.

We were delighted to host the Berkeley International School community and hope this visit has sparked a deeper curiosity about the role of public media in society. Thai PBS remains committed to opening our doors to the next generation of communicators, thinkers, and storytellers.
