Thai PBS, through its first partnership with the regional streaming platform Viu, is extending its international reach by bringing its new content to an international audience, a comedy-drama series ‘My Grandpa is a BL Writer’ (Thai title: ‘คุณปู่วุ่น Y หลานชาย Y วุ่น’). The 12-episode series will be available with Thai, English and Chinese subtitles and will debut on May 16th.
This marks the first time that Thai PBS content is to be distributed on a global streaming platform, a move aimed at broadening overseas audiences for Thai productions and strengthening the broadcaster’s presence in the international market.
Viu is a leading regional OTT (Over-the-Top) video streaming platform with more than 66.4 million active monthly users across Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.
Adisak Limparungpatanakij, Deputy Director General of Thai PBS, said the collaboration represents a significant step in bringing Thai PBS productions to international viewers, adding
Thai PBS is committed to promoting high-quality Thai content to global audiences and strengthening awareness of Thai PBS dramas in the international market.
This partnership is not only about increasing viewing channels, but also about expanding audiences overseas on a platform that reaches viewers across the Asia-Pacific region
according to Adisak, who described the series as a comedy-drama that has already attracted strong public interest following the release of its trailer, adding that its intergenerational storyline is expected to resonate with both domestic and international audiences.
Thai PBS plans to expand the partnership by introducing more of its productions to global viewers in the future, he said.
Meanwhile, Akirakorn I-kitisiri, Assistant Vice President of Business Development at Viu Thailand, said the platform believes that quality content can inspire audiences, offer fresh perspectives and connect people.
He praised Thai PBS productions for their distinctive storytelling and socially meaningful themes, saying they align well with Viu’s strategy of offering diverse, high-quality content to modern audiences.
The series follows a veteran writer whose family-run orphan foundation faces financial collapse and possible seizure. Desperate to save it, he enters the unfamiliar world of boys’ love fiction with the help of his grandson, who tutors him in modern language, youth culture and new ways of thinking.
As the two generations clash and bond while working together, the story develops into a heart-warming comedy exploring family relationships, understanding and learning across generational divides.
The series premieres on Thai PBS Channel 3 on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, airing every Saturday and Sunday from 20:30 to 21:30 (local). Past episodes will be available to watch on demand via Viu.
