Thai PBS Public Media Conference and MINI-INPUT 2018

Thai PBS hosted an international conference under the topic “Thai PBS Public Media Conference and MINI-INPUT 2018”, the conference attended by many international public media delegates and general audiences.

On November 15, 2018 Thai Public Broadcasting Service or Thai PBS, Goethe-Institut and INPUT cooperated to organize the international conference in the name “Thai PBS Public Media Conference and MINI-INPUT 2018” at convention hall, learning center, Thai PBS head office. In the opening ceremony, there were welcoming remark by three co-hosts consisted of Dr.Wilasinee Phiphitkul, the Thai PBS director general, Ms. Judy Tam, the INPUT president and Ms. Maren Niemeyer, the director of Goethe-Institut Thailand and received honor from H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, the 18th prime minister of Thailand, to give a keynote speech on the topic “Public Media Values in the 21st Century”. Afterwards, public media professionals participated in the discussion under the topic "Re-defining Public Media Values - Public Media Constraints, Finance, Technology and Human Resource" and in the afternoon with under topics "Public Media Roles, Social Issues and Public Engagement" and “Winning Public Trust; How to Do It and How to Measure It” after that participants were accommodated on a tour visiting studios and the production process. In the evening, there was a welcoming dinner and all international guests were invited to join in Loy Krathong, a traditional Thai culture, together with Thai PBS management.

On November 16, 2018, there were screenings of international short films and documentaries such as “Grotesco: The Refugee Crisis – A Musical” form Finland, “With Ayumi” Form Japan or “InfoK: Fighting Fear Together”, Kid News Special form Spain. After lunch, the last session was with the topic “Future Survival of Public Media”.

For this session talked about the way to survive of Swiss Broadcasting Company after referendum.

This conference was hosted for either general audience or media professionals also for media-related academicians to realize about the roles and values of public media among digital media changes, as well as to answer questions concerning trustworthiness, commercial and political independence of which are the essence of public media principles.
